Playa de Gulpiyuri is a flooded sinkhole with an inland beach located near Llanes, Spain around 100 m from the Cantabrian Sea. Roughly 40 meters in length, it is fully tidal due to a series of underground tunnels carved by the salt water of the Cantabrian Sea which allows water from the Bay of Biscay to create small waves. It is a popular tourist destination, natural monument, and part of Spain’s Regional Network of Protected Natural Areas.

Aside from actually booking your holiday or remembering to take your passport, travel insurance is one of the most important elements of going away. It’s not compulsory, but that doesn’t mean it’s not essential. You only have to read horror stories about holidaymakers’ travel plans gone wrong, or have a bad experience abroad with lost luggage or illness, to know that holiday insurance is every bit as vital as your holiday ticket.

There are many different forms of travel insurance on the market. There are specialist policies for extreme sports enthusiasts such as skiers and off-piste snowboarders, and if you’re planning to spend a week on a beach, you can find a policy to fit that too. There are also policies that depend on how frequently you travel, and this is where single trip insurance comes in.

If you’re only going away once this year, or if you’re looking for a specialist policy to cover an unusual trip, you can book single trip insurance. Typically, this type of insurance covers the holidaymaker for one holiday, for a limited amount of days. If this is just for one holiday and you know you won’t be going abroad again for the rest of the year – or ever! – then this is usually the most cost-effective option.

You’ll find plenty of providers out there. For instance, if you book through a tour operator, you can find single trip travel insurance from Thomas Cook or other such tour operators. And you can also use an online comparison website to find and compare other reputable insurance providers.

The alternative to single trip insurance is an annual or multi trip policy, which will cover you for multiple trips throughout a designated period, usually 12 months.

Whichever travel insurance you choose, make sure you don’t leave home without it. It could save you a lot of undue hassle should the worst happen!

Kilchurn Castle is a spectacular sixteenth century ancient ruin on a rocky peninsula at the northeastern end of Loch Awe, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. The ruined state adds to the atmosphere. You can let your imagination run wild. The views here are magnificent. Originally only accessible at low tide, because of a change in water levels, the castle is can now be reached overland anytime. Fifty years after the original construction, a hall was added in 1500, and later during that Century, a further dining hall and chambers.

It was the ancestral home of the Campbells of Glen Orchy, who later became the Earls of Breadalbane also known as the Breadalbane family branch, of the Clan Campbell. The earliest construction on the castle was the towerhouse and Laich Hall. During the Jacobite risings, the castle was used as a garrison, but in 1760, a lightning strike caused extensive damage and the castle was abandoned. The Kilchurn Castle is fantastic place to take children to bring history alive.

It’s common for people who have never taken the plunge and booked a ski holiday before to think that they’re going to make an idiot of themselves, but it doesn’t have to be this way. Beginner skiers can prepare themselves for their stint in the mountains meaning when they arrive in resort, arrange their ski hire and take to the slopes, they won’t fall head over heels – not straight away, anyway.

Sort out your gear – Don’t worry about shelling out a fortune on kit. Hire the equipment from the reputable stores in the resort and as for the salopettes and ski jacket – if you have a friend who’s the same size, borrow them. What’s the point in buying it all new if you’re not even sure you’ll ski again?

Enrol in ski lessons – You may have a husband, wife or interfering dad that thinks they know how to be a ski tutor. They may recommend you skip the ski schools and trust their skills as a tutor. While they mean well, you can’t beat the experts and they won’t make you ski a black diamond whilst reassuring that you’ll be fine when you’ll probably end up taking your skis off and rolling down the mountainside.

Work out – You don’t have to do much but preparing your muscles a bit will help them adapt to the intense exercise. You will use muscles on the slope that you didn’t know existed – warming them up with a stint in the gym will do them the world of good.

Practice – If you live near an indoor ski slope or dry ski slope, make use of it. While the dry slopes may not feel like the real thing, the indoor snowdomes are superb and well worth a day trip or 3 before your holiday.

If you’ve not booked your ski holiday for the next winter season already, do it now to benefit from some great savings online and prepare yourself for a stint on the slopes that you’ll never forget.

Australia is a huge country, blessed with superb landscapes and cultural highlights. Some of the most popular destinations for tourists to visit are detailed below.

Incredible Natural Heritage

Located on the southern coast of Queensland, on Australia’s eastern flank, Fraser Island became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1992. What makes the island especially interesting is its population of dingoes, Australia’s wild dogs. Rainforests, lakes, sand cliffs and shining white beaches also add to the island’s appeal.

Also located off Australia’s eastern coast is the Great Barrier Reef, one of the most famous natural features in the world. This huge coral reef stretches for a huge 86 million acres and there are at least 30 shipwrecks contained within the area! Whether you want to dive under the waves or just enjoy the view from a boat, this really is a magical stretch of ocean.

Heading into the Bush

The Northern Territory is one of Australia’s wildest states and it is here that visitors can find the Kakadu National Park. This World Heritage Site covers around five millions acres of varied landscape and is home to around 300 local Aboriginals, who dwell mainly in savannah woodlands and tidal wetlands.

The Blue Mountains of New South Wales are beautiful in their own right and they are also the home of the iconic Jamison Valley. Visitors to this valley can enjoy the steepest cable car ride in the Southern Hemisphere, with the added bonus of a glass floor through which to take in the views. Katoomba Falls and the Three Sisters rock formation are among the highlights of a trip to this valley.

Rock of Ages

Perhaps the most iconic location in Australia is located in the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This is the home of Uluru, the rock which, according to Aboriginal tradition, dates back to the creation of the Universe. The rock is sacred to the Anangu people who love in the area. Uluru, previously known as Ayers Rock, is located some 208 miles from Alice Springs, the nearest town. Climbing the rock is an experience that every visitor to Australia should try and achieve.

For a completely different kind of cultural experience, visitors should head to the National Gallery of Australia. It can be found in Canberra, the country’s capital, not too far from Australia’s national parliament buildings. Its extensive collection includes work from Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders, as well as photographic exhibitions and collections of work from foreign artists. The gallery boasts some 10, 000 items for display.

Convict Past

On the island of Tasmania, Port Arthur makes for an interesting visit. This former convict station is one of Australia’s most significant historical sites and features an open air museum. Port Arthur in the early 19th century was one of the toughest convict stations, with many second offenders (convicts who had re-offended in Australia after transportation) being sent here.

With such a wonderful variety of historical, natural and cultural wonders to explore, it is well worth checking out travel deals for Australia as soon as possible.

Thinking of visiting Australia? Cheapflights can help you find the best prices on flights to Australia in 2013.

If you’re new to cruising, you might choose to take a mini cruise. This is, as the name suggests, is a condensed form of cruising that usually takes place over a night or two, and travels to just one main destination rather than spending days at sea. If you’re skeptical about cruising or you’re worried about sea sickness, this is a great way to have a go without committing to the full cost of a week or two at sea. Most mini cruises are fun, affordable, and serve up all the usual perks of a standard cruise holiday such as great food, entertainment and experiences. It’s just a lot shorter. So why not give it a go?

If you’re a cruising regular, why not try a slightly different itinerary to your usual escapades? For instance if you typically frequent the Mediterranean Sea, exploring the likes of Spain, France and the Balearic Islands, you could try a voyage of the Red Sea and explore Egypt’s sparkling resorts like Sharm el Sheikh. Or how about an unforgettable Nile Cruise? This really is a voyage of adventure, and you’ll get to enjoy a leisurely cruise along the world’s most famous river before alighting at various ports, and joining excursions to discover spectacular Egyptian treasures like the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx and the Temple of Luxor.

And for those that want to add a super luxurious edge to their cruise experience, you can’t go far wrong with a Caribbean cruise holiday. Sail to these glittering golden-sanded shores and wake up to views of azure seas and rustling palms, before exploring exotic lands like Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. Talk about a holiday to remember…
